20/9/25: ROAD CLOSURE: The Michaelmas Fair in Bishops Castle takes place on SAT 20-SEP. Market Square and Harley Jenkins Street will be closed from 08:00-22:30 and High Street, Church Street, Salop Street, and New Street from 12:00-22:30. A vintage vehicle parade also takes place and involves short closures of the following streets: Church Street, Brampton Road, Love Lane and Schoolhouse Lane at various times between 12:00-22:30

11-22/8/25: B4370 Cwm Head. Installation of gabions to shore up embankment. A diversion will be in place.

5-7/8/25 ROAD CLOSURE: Castle Street, Bishops Castle for works by Severn Trent. A diversion will be in place.

27/7/25: ROAD CLOSURE: A488 between Clun and Colebatch. 9am-5pm for the replacement of a pole on the verge by Openreach. A diversion will be in place.

27/7/25: ROAD CLOSURE: B4370 Cwm Head & A489. 9.30 to 15.30 for pole testing by Openreach. A diversion will be in place.

5/7/25 ROAD CLOSURE: Bishops Castle Carnival and parade takes place on SATURDAY 5-JUL between 12:00-14:00. Roads closed at various periods for short duration before and while parade passes, controlled reopening when safe to do so. Marshals throughout route to provide assistance and direction as required. Roads affected Brampton Road, Church Street, High Street, Market Square, Salop Street, Station Street, New Street, Harley Jenkins Street, Union Street, Corporation Street, Kerry Lane.

Notice of Annual Parish Meeting: Please note the Mainstone with Colebatch annual parish meeting will be held Thursday 15th May at 7pm. Members of the public are invited to attend.

The following two grant opportunities are also currently open for applications:

Edward Cadbury Charitable Trust – open for applications Grants are available to registered charities in the West Midlands for projects which focus on: arts and culture; community projects and integration; compassionate support; conservation and environment; multifaith and interfaith relations; education and training; and research. Grants are typically between £3,000 and £20,000 and are for one-off projects. Larger grants are occasionally made on an exceptional basis. Who Can Apply The Trust supports registered charities, with a particular focus on supporting the voluntary sector in the Midlands region. Severn Trent Community Fund – New Project Funding Grants are available to local not-for-profit organisations for local projects that support the wellbeing of communities in the Severn Trent region. Two levels of grants are available from February 2025:

£2,000 to £20,000 – up to 24 months for project completion (organisations do not need to be registered to apply).

£20,001 to £100,000 – up to 24 months for project completion.

NB Severn Trent must be the majority funder of the project, so applicants need to be applying for at least 50% of the total project cost. Who Can Apply: Applications are accepted from organisations that are:

Not-for-profit, with a governing document and a bank account in the legal name of the organisation (with dual signatories).

Foundation schools, colleges or academy trusts.

Statutory bodies (including local authorities, town, parish or community councils).

15 November 2024: Free drop-in at Enterprise House in Bishop’s Castle is open to everyone in the area.  There will be a wide range of support partners on hand to offer practical money saving tips and advice, details of social tariffs, information on local support services, a limited number of free data SIMS and devices.  Health checks will be available with the Community Wellbeing Outreach Team bus and the Mental Health Hub in attendance.   All members of the  community are invited to come along and have an informal chat and see how these services may be able to help them reduce their cost of living.    Refreshments will be available (for a small donation) courtesy of the Friends of Bishop’s Castle Libary Coffee Morning.

Purpose: Bishops Castle Midsummer Rejoicing procession takes place SUN 23-JUN, between 09:00-13:00. Procession from Coverage Care Residential Home to Parish Church. Roads closed at different times while parade pass, controlled vehicle movements when safe to do so. Marshals throughout route to provide assistance and direction as required. Roads affected: Union Street, Harley Jenkins Street, High Street, Church Street.
